Miss Sage is Level 14 by Cat Food & Toumei Kousaku

One day as I was browsing Toranoana for C82 goodies, my eyes happened to pass by this particular Dragon Quest doujin. I initially had no interest, but the back of my mind kept screaming, “THERE’S SOMETHING FAMILIAR WITH THAT BOOK!” Unable to ignore my internal nagging, I clicked on the book and realized the art is very similar to NaPaTa, and indeed I was RIGHT!? I still can’t believe that I recognized her style simply from a quick glance at a small thumbnail. Of course, I would have found out about her collaborative book through her blog eventually, but still… My love for NaPaTa’s art is just that strong?

In any case, I decided to buy two copies of this book. One for my own personal pleasure and the second to share with everyone. It’s pretty short with a gangbang story to start things off, and a cute vanilla themed story to wrap things up. Special thanks goes out to Conan for his wonderful editing. Please enjoy!

  1. Oh man, thank you so much for this. I love NaPaTa very much, she’s up there with Nakajima Yuka and Takumi na Muchi for my #1 favorite h-author.

I also saw this doujin on Toranoana when I was shopping for doujin for the first time but passed up on it since I’ve never played Dragon Quest, so thanks a lot for providing both a raw and a translated version, they’re both going straight to my archieve.

By the way are there any raws or a translation of the doujin she mentions in this post? http://blog.livedoor.jp/cat__food/archives/51849883.html, I’m a big fan of Haganai and Kobato especially so this is one of my holy grails I’ve been looking for, would be awesome if NaPaTa did more stuff not based on DQ but as long as she enjoys herself it’s all good.

Thanks again and sorry for the long comment!

    • I’m clueless when it comes to Dragon Quest, so I had to do a bit of research for this book. That didn’t stop me from buy the book .

As far as I know, NaPaTa has participated in comiket a few times before (with other groups too), but I think this is the first time she sold anything online. Unless she starts reprinting her earlier doujins on Tora or Melon, I don’t think we’ll be seeing those anytime soon.

      • Ah well, that sucks. The search and/or wait for a reprint continues then, hopefully NaPaTa releases a Tankoubon soon because I want something of hers in my collection.

  2. I think next time they’d be best just make two different books for all kinds of fans, both are good artists so both would sell. I’m not really into doujins, I’m even less in Dragon Quest and gangbangs so I was moving on…then I pulled the handbrake and spotted Napata. Seriously, nice experiment but I’m not sure it was such a good idea.

    • I wouldn’t call this an experiment considering she’s done collaborations before. Comiket is a huge battle ground among artists and space is very limited. People have to apply and be approved (I’m not sure of the criteria, but the I wouldn’t be surprised if drawing a huge crowd would be a factor). Considering both parties in question are “small” compared to everyone else, it’s a better business decision to team up and occupy one booth. Saves money, maximize potential profit, and more importantly, gets your name out there.

I would not be surprised that most well known mangaka and H-mangaka have their humble beginnings at conventions like this. While there’s no denying that both artists have talent, it still boils down to exposure to the crowd. What’s worst, they’re doing a book that A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE DOING, which means there’s a higher chance people will walk on by without a care.

It’s purely business in one sense, and also a way for the artist to draw whatever they feel like without the pressure of a commercial editor. Even in this case, NaPaTa didn’t deviate from her usual style, both in art and plot.
